Diane Smith Sumerlin

Diane Smith Sumerlin – born May 13, 1945, a native of Brookhaven, MS and longtime resident of Chickasaw, AL went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on December 29, 2012. Her homecoming reunited her with many loved ones and friends. Her long awaited reunion with her Daddy, Herman “Stub” Smith, finally came to be. Diane adored and missed her Daddy everday of her earthly life. What a glorious homecoming on December 29, 2012, at 9:10 a.m. Diane is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, James “Lou” Sumerlin, Jr.; children, Darren Case (Shanan) of Brookhaven, MS, James L. Sumerlin, III (Jamie) of Grand Bay, and Heather S. Breeding (Curtis) of Wilmer; grandchildren, Trey and Spencer Breeding, Jordan and Jasmine Sumerlin, and Chelsea, Skyler , Matthew, and Hanna Case; mother, Virgie Smith; sisters, Wanda Bullock (Jerry) and Pam Price (Jimmy) of Brookhaven, MS; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She leaves behind special friends, Janice Falvey of Jackson, MS, Lucille Miller of Saraland, AL, Nita Fay Case of Central, LA, Steve Brown of Fairhope, AL, and her beloved pets, Barney and April. Diane devoted her life to being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. Her joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and husband. She will be remembered as the beautiful, vibrant woman she was. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses of Springhill Home Health: Maggie Chestang, Maureen Day, Mary Ann Gurthi, Jenise Turner, and Angela Bradley. We thank you for your care, compassion and love shown to Momma during her sickness. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the service hour.
