She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who stayed deeply connected to her community and family throughout her life. In 1944, Diane’s family relocated to Tuscaloosa, AL, where her father worked at the new B.F. Goodrich plant. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from what was then the College of Home Economics, with a concentration in clothing and retailing. After college, Diane moved to Mobile where she began her professional career with IBM Corporation. It was during those early years in Mobile that she met Edward “Eddie” John Vulevich, Jr. The two married and built a beautiful life together over 48 years. Diane embraced her role as a full-time mother with joy and intention, raising their three children with care, creativity, and faith. She served as a class room mother, Red Cross volunteer, lawn festival organizer (St. Phillip Neri and St. Rose of Lima parishes). Diane particularly enjoyed working with children and spent time as a substitute teacher at St. Luke’s Episcopal School and McGill- Toolen Catholic High School. She was also involved in the early efforts of Mobile Baykeeper, contributing to local environmental advocacy. To her grandchildren, she was “Bay Bay,” a name that stuck. She valued time with family and enjoyed hosting gatherings down the bay, especially when they brought multiple generations under one roof. She also enjoyed her monthly birthday group lunches with a close circle of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward John Vulevich, Jr.; her daughter, Erin Louise Vulevich; her parents, Daniel Jerome and Maryann Misko; and her brothers, William John and Daniel Gregory Misko. Her youngest brother, Jeffrey Michael Misko, passed away shortly after her, on July 8, 2025. She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Jan) Vulevich Stewart (Andy); her son, Edward John Vulevich III (Catherine); and grandchildren: Edward J. Vulevich IV, Catherine (Cate) Reynalds Vulevich, and Eloise (Lucy) Hart Vulevich. She also leaves behind her sister, Danelle M. Misko, along with extended family and longtime friends. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mitchell Cancer Institute, USA Hospital, Mobile Infirmary, Infirmary Rotary, and Kauhale Assisted Living for their care and support.
A visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 9101 Dauphin Island Parkway, Belle Fontaine, Alabama. Refreshments and fellowship will immediately follow.
