Donna Carpenter Schermer

Donna Carpenter Schermer, 74, was born on September 11, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana and departed this life peacefully on April 20, 2025 at home in Mobile, Alabama. Her beloved father was a Master Chief with the United States Coast Guard, so Donna spent the majority of her childhood moving every few years. She was an executive secretary and bookkeeper for many years before joining the Mobile County Public School System, where she retired as a statistician for the English as a Second Language Department.

Donna was a very friendly and compassionate woman. She loved crocheting blankets for her loved ones and making soup for “her firemen”. Donna was a very involved mother, and she served as the PTA President, Team Mom, Class Mom, Chaperone, and Partner in Crime. Donna never met a stranger and was affectionately known as Mama Schermer to many that she embraced. She was the life of the party and brought so much laughter and joy to everyone’s life. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Marvin R. Carpenter and brother, Marvin E. “Marvie” Carpenter.

She is survived by her loving husband, Philip Schermer, Jr.; sons, Jason Biggs (Mary), Michael Biggs (Wendy), and Philip “Tres” Schermer, III; mother, Carolyn Carpenter; sisters, Patricia Smith and Susan Barter (Michael); sisters-in-law, Susan Schermer Ross and Judy Vonada (Michael); grandchildren, Dallas Millevoi (Michael), Patton Biggs, Audrey Biggs, and Michael Roland Biggs; nieces, Lindsay Barter, Lauren Barter, and Trish Shaffer; nephew, Brandon Ross (Roshini); and many other cherished family and friends.

Visitation for Donna will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m. in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association, or your charity of choice.
