

Miss Doris Carr died on March 15, 2011, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 94 years. Miss Carr was born on March 3, 1917, in Pensacola, FL, the oldest child of Thomas Cecil Carr, a native of Tuskegee, and Lucy Ethel Gordon Carr, a native of Atmore. Her sisters, Ruth Carr and Mildred Gordon Carr, and brother, Thomas Cecil Carr, Jr., predeceased her. She grew up in Macon County, lived for some twenty years in Birmingham, moved to Mobile in the early 1960’s, and moved to Wilmington in 2005. She worked as a legal secretary for Vickers, Riis, Murray & Curran in Mobile for many years. Doris was a loving aunt who enjoyed reading, music, travel, and volunteer work for National Public Radio affiliate WHIL in Mobile. She was a long-time member of West Side United Methodist Church in Mobile. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. T. C. Carr, Jr. (Annette) of St. Paul, MN; five nieces: Julianne (Bruce) Seiber of St. Paul, MN; Lucy (Thomas) Hubert of St. Louis, MO; Deena (Don) Hanke of Seattle, WA; Ellen (Kim) Hollon of Canton, MA; and Patricia (Larry) Adams, of Wilmington, NC; and one nephew, Thomas Cecil Carr, III (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA. She also had three great-nieces, one great-nephew; and one great-great-niece.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
