Dorothy was born in Mobile, AL to Ben and Dorothy Robison Dukes (deceased) where she attended Convert of Mercy and Springhill College. She participated in school activities while honing her skills in creative writing including poetry.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Benjamin (Megan)
She has five brothers, Ben, Hugh (deceased), Jim, Sherard and Leslie (Susie) and two sisters, Marguerite and Mary DeWitt Dukes and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy taught at St Catherine’s here in Mobile before moving to Richmond, Va., where she taught middle schoolers in Henrico County. She was honored as Teacher of the Year several times. She returned to Mobile in 2005 to be close to her son and other family.
Her wish would be in lieu of flowers any remembrance be directed to The Friends of the Mobile Animal Shelter 855 Owens St, Mobile 36604.
Visitation for Dorothy will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, with a memorial service immediately following in the chapel. Inurnment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
