

Dorothy is survived by her three children, Janie Rowell Lanier (Alfred), James William Rowell, (Jeni), Judy Rowell Barnes (Emmett), grandchildren, Chuck Jones (Lisa), Chad Jones (Nikki), Jennifer Lanier Massey (Bradley), Laura Barnes, Steve Lanier, Michelle Lanier Howard (Stewart), and Marcus Lanier (Tarrant), and Great Grandchildren Ethan Jones, Tyler Jones, Lindsey Jones, Drew Jones, Connor Jones, Courtney Lanier, Preston Howard, Chloe Lanier, Cara Lanier, and Julia Lanier.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Henry Rowell, parents James and Estelle Gunnels, and brother James Gunnels, Jr.
Dorothy was born on March 13, 1924 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She proudly served her country during World War II as a Navy Wave, Yeoman. Dorothy was a dedicated individual who loved her country and her family. She was an active member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Cottage Hill Civitan Club, South Alabama Honor Flight Program, Government Street Women’s Club and Azalea City Woman’s Club.
Both visitation and funeral services will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 from 1:00 – 3:30 PM. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, April 25 at 3:30 with graveside to follow. Reverend Kathy Jorgensen will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy’s life.
