Douglas Martin Wimpee

Mr. Douglas Martin Wimpee, age 94, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018. He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Barbara “Boo” Wimpee. Mr. Wimpee served his country honorably in the United States Army. Doug retired after 68 years as a self-employed automobile mechanic in Mobile. He spent many years racing cars in the Mobile area and around the south. This was always his passion. Mr. Wimpee is survived by his children; John Earl Wimpee (Marilyn), Douglas “Buddy” Wimpee (Kay) and Robin Wimpee Ballard (Bobby). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Travis and Stuart Wimpee, Sean Wimpee, Amanda Bodiford, Philip and Eric Ballard and Lindsey Ballard Taylor, fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Louise Wimpee, special friend, Clarence Jay, many nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff and nurses of William F. Green Veteran’s Home for their care and support during the past two years. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel beginning at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
