Rev. Eddie C. Davis was one of the greatest positive influences in my early life, and he made it possible for me to attend college and become a professional. It was summer 1969, and I was a 21-year-old summer "over-hire" at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport. On my first day, Rev Davis, or simply 'Eddie' as he insisted we all address him, quickly surveyed the new summer employees, and asked my name and what I planned to do. I responded that I  planned to attend the University of Illinois and pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology, which was my lifetime ambition. I mentioned, however, that money was a legitimate concern, and I did not know if I could afford it. For those who knew Eddie best, he gave me one of those all-knowing-nothing-is-impossible looks, and he then proceeded to became one of the best friends and mentors of my life. The work was very tedious and at times horrific since we were responsible for unloading medical equipment shipped back from the Vietnam War. Many times the instruments were encrusted in blood, and one could just visualize the battlefield conditions that must have been responsible. Eddie sensed my brief periods of dismay, and he would then wisk me away from the warehouse on what he called "inspection tours." In reality, we would go to a neighboring warehouse or even a coffee shop off-base while I would regain my composure. These were not wasted periods, however, as Eddie was immersed in knowledge and experience that absolutely captivated me. I have been privileged to know many smart people in my life, but, clearly, Eddie C. Davis was one of the smartest and wisest.

Then Hurricane Camille struck, and I thought my college career was over before it started because we were all dismissed immediately due to severe warehouse damage. Once again Rev. Davis stepped in and made sure that I earned enough money for college. Apparently Eddie was permitted to retain one over-hire to reconstruct the paperwork destroyed by the hurricane, and he selected me. As a result, I finished the summer with enough tuition money and, more importantly, memories that have lasted a lifetime. In addition to becoming a psychologist, I completed three additional master's degrees at Harvard and a law degree in England, all of which would have been impossible without Eddie's love and support some 48 years ago. 

Reverend Eddie Cleveland Davis is in heaven without any doubt whatsoever. From the bottom of my heart and soul, Eddie, thank you.

Brother Eddie is a loved servant of God and his fellow man. Sister Harriet, we love and pray for you and the family.

Ms. Harriet, Gaylene (Randy), Eddie, Jr.(Michelle), Winston (Susan), Darlene and all the rest of the family, sincerely saddened for you to hear of Bro. Eddie's homegoing.  He was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed. Love and Prayers to you all.

So sorry for your loss.  My prayers will be with you and family.   So sorry I'm unable to attend services but I just got out the hospital a week ago and  Trying to recuperate.   Not able to go anywhere.  Will remember You in my prayers
