
The 97-year life of Eileen Scanlon Broughton, a native of New Mexico and longtime resident of Mobile, will be celebrated at her home parish, Joan of Arc Catholic Church, on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Mass at 11:00.
Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
An AAU diving champion and graduate of Dawson (NM) High School. Earned a BA in teaching from University of New Mexico. Reigned as the 1938 Homecoming Queen. Worked her way through college at the New Mexico State Health Laboratory.
First registered female pilot in the state on New Mexico. Owned her own Piper Cub. Served as President of the “Ninety-Nines.”
Met the love of her life, Rollin Broughton. Moved to the family home in Mobile to raise their family. Taught at St. Pius X, Vigor HS, and Mae Eanes MS. An active member of Beta Sigma Phi and La Sertoma.
Preceded in death by: husband of 58 years, Rollin Carter Broughton, son Rollin Carter Broughton Junior, six brothers, two sisters.
Survived by her children: James Broughton, Mary McLendon, William “Jet” Broughton, MD (Digi), Annette Robinson (Paul). Daughter in law, Ann Broughton, niece, Clara Brunk. Nine grandchildren: Scott Eastman, Ashley Parker, Noell Broughton, Jason McLendon, Victor Broughton, Leif Revere, Melody Roy, Rachel Robinson, Michael Robinson. Twelve great-grandchildren. Brother, Gerald Scanlon of New Mexico.
