Gerald David Ogden peacefully passed away at home in Mobile, Alabama on 9-1-2022. Gerald was born and raised in Houston, TX. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston and worked as a process chemical engineer in carbon black plants in Texas, California, Kentucky, and Ohio. In 1993, he was transferred to the Degussa plant in Theodore AL. He retired seven years later and moved to Fairhope, AL.
Gerald lived for 83 years and would say his greatest accomplishment was his family. He and Cookie were married for 61 years and have two children and four grandchildren. He also loved spending time with friends, traveling, collecting sports memorabilia, and playing golf. The highlight of his golfing years was a hole in one on #3 at the Rock Creek Golf Club. He has joined his friends, Larry, Fred, and Charlie for a foursome in heaven. Gerald also loved the Lord and was a 20+-year member of Fairhope United Methodist Church and the Friends in Faith Sunday School class. He is currently a member of Ashland Place United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cookie (Bernice) Ogden, son, Todd Ogden of Dallas, TX (Becky), daughter, Melissa Ogden Epker of Mobile, AL (Jake) and grandchildren, Annabelle and Teddy Ogden and Noah and Evie Epker.
Please join us to celebrate Gerald’s life on 9-12-2022 at 1:30pm at Ashland Place United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at Gerald and Cookie’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alabama Library for the Blind (6030 Monticello Drive Montgomery AL 36117), which provided the many books Gerald listened to after he lost his sight in 2019.
The family wishes to thank Springhill Hospice and a very special caregiver, Leilani. We also wish to thank Gerald’s best friend, Lee Frailie, for his years of love and loyalty.
