Geraldine was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1931 and was preceded in death by her parents James and May (Heaphy) Martin, her husband and best friend of 58 years, James A. Gorman, and her beloved sister Patricia Walsh. She is survived by six loving children: Andrew (Beth) Gorman of Mobile, James (Gina) Gorman of Magnolia, TX, Janine (Michael) Christensen of Mobile, Peter Gorman of Hawthorne, NJ, Mark (Susan) Gorman of Tampa, FL and Colleen Chambers of Pensacola, FL; ten adored grandchildren; Thomas (Brittany) Gorman, Danielle and Sarah Rose Christensen, Michael (Colleen) Todd and Collin Todd, Benjamin, Ryan and Catherine Gorman, Madeline (Juan Medina) and Dillon Chambers; four great-grandchildren Alayna and Zander Gorman, Mason Todd and Liam Medina. She is also survived by her cherished sister Maureen (Kenneth) Gardner of Hilton Head, SC, her dear friend Marge (Eric) Rudolph of Mobile, AL and many relatives, friends and neighbors.
Geraldine attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, NY and later attended St. Johns University in NYC and Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. She worked as a secretary at St. John’s University and The Port Authority of New York. After her marriage to her husband Jim, she lived in Valley Stream, Glens Falls, and Suffern, New York. Gerri and Jim moved to Mobile, AL in 1983 and have called it home ever since. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary and to St. Jude. Gerri was devoted to her family and was happiest when her family was gathered together for her home cooked meals for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. She was best known for her baked from scratch goodies, especially her sour cream coffee cake, a recipe that has been shared countless times with family and friends. Over the years, Gerri taught her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews to bake. She had a green thumb, growing vegetable gardens, beautiful flowers and plants, both outside and inside her home. Whenever a beautiful plant caught her eye, a snip would be taken home and replanted. Although she never took a lesson, Gerri could play the piano beautifully “by ear.” She was a volunteer at Providence Hospital for over twenty years, was an active member of New Mobilians Club and loved to play and host Bunco. For the past several years, Gerri had two wonderful caregivers. Fran came twice a week and would often take Gerri to her favorite store, Lowes, “just to browse,” which she enjoyed immensely. Gerri’s beloved granddaughter, Madeline, came to stay and care for her grandma three days a week, along with her great-grandson Liam, who brought joy to her life. Our mother was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
