

Frances was born June 4, 1923 in Mobile, Alabama to Adrian and Cleo (Gliddon) Arras. She graduated from Murphy High School class of 1940. Frances married, William Howard Ashcraft, Jr., May 12, 1950. Frances was a career employee of Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad retiring in 1983.
Frances was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church on Government Street in Mobile, Alabama. She was a proud member of the LuLuna’s Mardi Gras Society, a charter member of the American Business Women’s Association – Mobile Bay Chapter, She loved gardening and flowers and was a member of the Mobile Orchid Society and the Camellia Society. Her interest in family history led her to the Mobile Genealogical Society and in later years she worked as a volunteer at the University of South Alabama in the Archeology Department. She worked tirelessly for these organizations giving generously of her time and talents.
Aunt Frances was a charming southern lady that loved her family, and her family loved her.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband William Howard Ashcraft, Jr., her brother Adrian O. Arras, and her sister Adriana A. Collins. She is survived by her brother William W. Arras, Sr. and her sister Cleo A. Zavros; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 6, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until funeral service time of 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
