

Helen Cazalas Swinson – an 89 year-old native and resident of Mobile passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011. Mrs. Swinson retired from Alabama State Vocational Rehabilitation after many years of service as a secretary. She was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, a volunteer for the Little Sisters of the Poor, and loved gardening and traveling. “Mams” was devoted to her family and a living example of love. Mrs. Swinson was preceded in death by her husband, William Louis Swinson; son, John Philip Swinson; parents, William P. and Edna Allen Cazalas; and brothers, William Cazalas and Frank Cazalas. She is survived by six children: William L. Swinson, Jr. (Fran), Anne S. Godwin (Coburn), Karen S. Sweeney (Don), Peter James (“The Favorite”) Swinson (Bonita), Kathy S. Savell (Blake), and Betsy S. Byrd (Bruce); sisters: Dolores Fearn and Marian Rohmer (Hillary); 15 grandchildren: William Swinson, Chrissy Robinson (Klain); Martin Sweeney, Christopher Sweeney (Alicia), Kevin Sweeney (Holley), Nathalie Middleton (Tony), Peter Swinson, Jr. (Melanie), Kate Swinson, Joe Swinson, Daniel Jackson (Melinda), Horace Jackson (Olivia), Michelle Jackson, Stewart Jackson, Alice Savell, and Helen Savell; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Monday, July 4, from 5-8 p.m. and at the church parish hall on Tuesday, from 9-10 a.m. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery.
