Henry was born in Mobile, AL on December 28, 1952, and graduated from Murphy High School in 1970. Henry was known as long-time member of the Cottage Hill Baptist Church. In his free time Henry would spend his time on numerous mission trips to Mexico, Japan, and other locations spreading the name and word of God. Henry was also heavily involved within the community and an influential member throughout Mobile County, to include retiring from the Mobile County Housing Board. Henry would spend numerous hours after work and his weekends being instrumental to Mobile County’s youth by umpiring and refereeing youth baseball and football including refereeing games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Although Henry never realized or cared, his words, smile and love, engraved the hearts of all that knew him. His devotion to family, community, and church was never questioned as he loved all that life offered him.
In Henry’s spare time, he enjoyed going to the theater and having dinner, and going to the park and walking with his children and grandchildren. Henry spent most of his last years battling Parkinson’s disease, while still working out with Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s. Henry fought to the bitter end and was able to be with those he loved the most – FAMILY.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Francis A. Slade, Teresa Kerr and his beloved son Henry La Bryan “Bryan” Slade. Henry is survived by his Daughter Christina Tyler and son Jason (Andrea) Slade and 6 Grandchildren Juliana, Abigale, Ansley “Maddie”, Isabella, Bryan and Henry.
It was requested by Henry, prior to his death, that instead of flowers being sent, to please donate in the memory of Henry, to the MichaelJFox.org or Parkinson.org, so that the others still fighting Parkinson’s can continue their fight.
