Living to be 106 years old, Hilda led an amazing life full of adventure and love. She was orphaned at the age of 4 and raised by family (Elena Narvaez) in Mexico. After finishing school in Mexico, Hilda ventured to Mobile, Alabama to begin nursing school. She taught herself English, as she studied to become a Registered Nurse. With the help of her cousin, Gladys Dutton, Hilda completed 4 years of nursing school and began her career at the old Providence Hospital. Later that year, Hilda began working as a nurse at International Paper Company and caught a ride to work with a man who soon became her beloved husband. Six months after that first car ride, Hilda and John (‘Johnny’) Wynne married in December 1946 and enjoyed 40 years of marriage living in Mobile before Johnny’s death in February 1987. Over 4 decades, Hilda and Johnny welcomed countless family and friends into their Mobile home and Gulf Shores beach cottage. They shared a deeply held belief that the more family and friends included, the merrier the life. They enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends for all the holidays.
Hilda had an amazing green thumb and loved raising African Violets. She knitted, crocheted, tatted, and sewed beautifully. She loved bowling and playing games and cards with friends. There was absolutely nothing Hilda could not do! She loved everyone and all who met her, loved her! She was amazingly inclusive to everyone.
Hilda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, John Jacob Wynne, her son John Joseph Wynne, her two sisters and two brothers. Hilda is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Margaret Wynne Spivey, her son in law Ronnie C. Spivey, her daughter from another mother Helen Narvaez Neese, and her 5 grandchildren who adored their ‘Memaw’ (Maria Sesin, Angela Spivey, Ana (Jeff) Muratori, Michelle Odom, and Chad Wynne), and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
