Imogene Anderson Shaw, born November 8, 1934 in Bassfield, MS, died at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her father, William Luke Anderson and her mother, Lela McPhail Anderson; brother, James Austin Anderson and sisters, Virginia Easterling, Ruth McBee and Hazel Powell; son-in-law, Henry Thomas.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her husband of 65 years, Douglas F. Shaw; four children, Bridget Thomas, Michael Shaw, Brenda Upchurch and Deborah Shaw all of Mobile, AL; four grandsons, Chris Upchurch, Steven (Andrea) Upchurch, Jeffery Shaw and Robbie Shaw; great grandchildren, Frankie Shaw, Cecilia Shaw, Braxton Upchurch and Logan Shaw; brother, Charles (Mauriel) Anderson, also, many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Imogene was a graduate of Bassfield High School and Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS. She met and married Doug Shaw at the College and they graduated together in 1954. After Doug graduated from Mississippi State University, they moved to Birmingham, AL. where she was a Sunday school teacher at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Center Point, AL. She and her family moved to New Orleans for a short time when Doug started work with the Corps of Engineers. When Doug transferred to the Mobile Office in 1962, they became members of Moffett Road Baptist Church. Imogene was active in Sunday School and the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) for many years. She and Doug taught young married couples for many years, Young couples were dear to her heart. She was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Corps of Engineers Wives Club, in which she served as President, Vice President and Scholarship Committee Chairman. She was also a life-time member of the College Auxiliary of the University of Mobile. Imogene was a member of the Mobile Rock and Gem Society. She enjoyed camping and teaching their children to enjoy nature and the beauty God gave us to enjoy. She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and being outdoors. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, trips to Yellowstone, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Disney World and many other places. One of the most enjoyable trips was to Branson, MO where they spent two weeks for their 50th anniversary. Another hobby she enjoyed was that of sewing. She made clothes for all three of her girls. She enjoyed going to their farm in Mississippi where they had a big garden for many years. She enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables. Her kitchen was a colorful showcase in canning season with yellow squash, green beans and red tomatoes. Imogene’s life was her family and her church. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, Mobile, AL, on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m.
Interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile, AL. will be held privately.
