James Harvey Barksdale

Mr. James Harvey Barksdale, Jr., passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015. He was the only child of the late J. H. and Ida Barksdale. Mr. Barksdale served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a graduate of Murphy High School Class of ’49. Jim was a Scoutmaster for Troops 99 and 100 and later, he enjoyed square dancing, gospel music and fishing. He enjoyed volunteering with Son Shine Builders, but his true passion was gardening. A kind and gentle soul, Jim loved all animals and they loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys Pierce Barksdale, three children, William (Ann) Barksdale, Cindy (Johnny) Temple, and Bob (Lorie) Barksdale. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Mason James Barksdale, Paul (Von) Larson and Josh Larson. Visitation will be held at Noon on Monday, June 22, 2015 in the chapel of Spring Hill Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101 or to Spring Hill Baptist Church Foundation.
