James Harold Brewer, 67, a native of Waynesboro, MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 following a lengthy illness. Harold was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard and Sarah Annie Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Sledge Brewer, his sons Kevin Earl Brewer, and James Christopher “Chris” (Bethany) Brewer, and three grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Caroline, Christopher and Connor Brewer. He is also survived by brother Richard Earl (Margie) Brewer, and sisters Aline (Palmer) Graham, and Shirley (Glenn) Hennis , father-in-law George Earl Sledge, as well as loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Harold graduated from Jones County Community College as a Radiographer and later earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Alabama. He served in the Army as a radiographer at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Through the years he earned his paramedic license, real estate broker license, and was the first in the region to pass the certification exam for designation as Certified Radiology Administrator. He was employed by Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for 40+ years. His most rewarding pursuits, however, were those where he worked behind the scenes to help others. He participated in eight wonderful mission trips where churches, orphanages, or medical centers were being constructed, and only stopped those visits due to declining health. He stayed busy quietly doing things for friends and family, or particularly for elderly folks no longer able to do hard tasks themselves. He turned into a softy with the arrival of his three grandchildren, and from that point on they were his pride and joy. His passion was living an honest, hardworking, consistent life that honored his parents and Christ. He loved his family deeply and was committed to their safety and happiness.
Visitation will be held at Forest Hill Church of God, Mobile, AL on Monday, April 13, 2015 beginning at 10 am. Memorial service will begin at noon with burial service following at Pine Crest West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forest Hill Church of God Missions Project, www.foresthillcog.org. The family wishes to thank the many friends and relatives who have prayed for and supported Harold and his family over the past seven years
