Howard, of Semmes, Ala., enjoyed making others laugh and could often be found clowning and making funny faces at his grandchildren. He was a full-time coffee drinker who enjoyed deer hunting and Gulf fishing.
He was born June 6, 1958, to Henry Havens and Edith Wheeler Havens in Semmes, Ala. Howard made his living in the well drilling business, working many years for his father’s company, D & H Havens Well Co., before opening his own company, J.H. Havens Well Co.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Brittany Riggle. He is survived by his daughters Twana Havens, Tonya Havens, Tiffany Havens, and Candace Hutcherson; his sons James Havens, Jr. and Waylon Havens; siblings Esther Cassity, Raymond Havens, and Shannon Havens; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Gospel Lighthouse Holiness Church on Old Shell Road. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m., and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. He will be interred at Pine Crest Cemetery West on Snow Road.
