Jane Phillips Ward was born October 4, 1908 in Ralph Alabama to Walter and Lula Phillips. “Momo,” as she was affectionately known to her family, married Daniel Webster Ward in 1929. An educator for 27 years, she moved with her husband and two daughters to Mobile, Alabama in 1942 where Jane taught 4th grade in the Mobile County School System for 17 years before retiring in 1963 to care for her ailing husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandparent. Having become a Christian at the age of 10 during a revival service at her church in Ralph, Alabama, she was an active member and volunteer at Cottage Hill Baptist Church until her health prevented further involvement. Momo’s family and friends celebrate her long life, her clear testimony and strong faith in Christ Jesus, her sweet servant and selfless nature (others first, always), the quiet and respectable life she lived, and her amazing and unconditional love for her family, friends and others. She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, her daughter Evalu Ward Denton, and her three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter Betty Jane Johnson, five grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 12:45 pm at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile Chapel. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon.
