
Jean Barnett Reid, a long time resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away June 17, 2017, at age 87. Born in Montrose, MS, Jean later moved to Lucedale, MS with her family where she graduated high school in 1947 and met her future husband. After attending Mississippi State College for Woman she worked 30 years as a legal secretary in the firm of Erling Riis, Jr. until retirement. She enjoyed playing the piano, couple’s bridge and loved her yard and garden. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she cherished holidays and time spent with her family and grandchildren. Jean was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Holmes Reid; parents, James N. Barnett and Ada Irene James Barnett; brothers, Sidney A. Barnett (Donyce) and James N. Barnett, Jr. (Barbara). She is survived by daughter, Janice Reid Covert (Larry); son, Jack Holmes Reid, Jr. (Bethany); grandchildren, Drew Lawrence Covert, Jack H. "Joey" Reid, III, Amanda Covert Wilbanks (Marshall), William Nelson Reid (Karen); and great- grandchildren, Marshall Shearer Wilbanks, Jr., Katherine "Kate" Reid Wilbanks. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. followed by a graveside service (weather permitting) at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Terry Richie from Spring Hill Baptist Church officiating.
