Jimmy Flynt Johnson went to his heavenly home on April 2, 2018 - his 78th birthday. He is survived by his wife, Cecile Bryant Johnson, children Bryant Johnson (Amy) and Missy Smith (Andy); and five grandchildren, Jackson, Sullivan, Grayson Smith, Chapman and Campbell Johnson. He also leaves behind a sister, Martha Johnson Young (Ed) of Nashville, TN and a brother Bernard F. Johnson, Jr. (Aida), of Sarasota, FL.
As a young man growing up in Mobile, Jim played trumpet and enjoyed playing with friends in a Calypso band in high school. He went on to perform from his back porch to the delight of his neighbors, receiving requests over the phone. He attended The University of Southern Mississippi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked for many years as an electrical designer for Ingalls Shipbuilding, formerly Litton, in Pascagoula, MS.
Jim was a great man of faith. He served as a deacon at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. He told great stories to his grandchildren, took them fishing on his boat and was an avid fan of Alabama football. But most of all he provided well for his family and loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He left an amazing legacy.
The memorial service will be at 5:30 pm on Thursday, April 5th at Radney Funeral Home. Family will receive friends immediately after the service from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
For every hardship the need was met with much love and support from our beloved family and friends. Our hearts overflow.
In honor of Jim, memorials may be made by giving to The National Cancer Center, 88 Sunnyside Blvd. Suite 307, Plainview, New York 11803-1518 or to Dauphin Way Baptist Church, 3661 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36608
