Jo Anne Shreves

Born in Trenton, NJ, on September 19, 1940, Jo Anne was adopted at a young age by the loving Smith and Annie Armour. She was a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, and graduated from Murphy High School in 1958.

On June 21, 1958, Jo Anne married Griffin Shreves, the boy next door whom she had known from across the street on Nellie Street. Together, they raised four children: Dawn, Beverly, Griffin Jr., and Matthew. Jo Anne’s deep love for her family was evident in all aspects of her life.

A talented artist and seamstress, Jo Anne shared her creativity generously with her community. Her handmade banners adorned several local churches, and her involvement in church youth programs and mission work was both impactful and heartfelt. Jo Anne also served as the Girl Scout Cookie Chairperson for Mobile from 1973 to 1978 and dedicated many years as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, contributing to numerous civic events.

Professionally, Jo Anne enjoyed a successful career in real estate before retiring from the Mobile County Revenue Commission in 1999. Her passion for travel and the outdoors brought her immense joy, and she cherished the time spent with her close circle of lifelong friends.

Jo Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Griffin; her parents, her daughter, Dawn and two of her grandsons, Eric and Nathaniel. She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Joe), her sons Griffin (Brenda) and Matthew (Deborah), her brother Smith Armour Jr (Dottie), four grandsons, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Jo Anne’s memory will be honored and cherished by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to love, creativity, and community service.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Jo Anne’s life from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a service and reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity or organization of your choice in Jo Anne’s memory.
