

John A. "Jack" Davis - One of the last of the greatest generation completed this journey through life on February 1, 2014, at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Malone Davis and all of his six siblings.
Jack was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and attended St. Bernard High School before his education was interrupted by World War II. He served his nation in the United States Marine Corps and saw some of the fiercest fighting in the South Pacific during campaigns in the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal and Tulagi), Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian for which the Second Marine Division received four Presidential Citations. At the time of his death he was a member of the Baldwin County Jesse Andrews Chapter of the Marine Corps League and was blessed by his Heavenly Father to complete the last South Alabama Honor Flight from the City of Mobile to Washington D.C.
Following his Honorable Discharge from service, he continued his education at St. Bernard Junior College and graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile. He married Ann on June 9, 1951, and they settled in Mobile where Jack entered the banking profession beginning his career with First National Bank. He attended and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University and was instrumental in bringing First Alabama Bank to the Mobile market, ultimately retiring from Regions Bank after the merger and completing a long and distinguished banking career. During that time he was actively involved in numerous community activities. He was a Past President of the Visiting Nurses Association, St. Pius X Parish Council and the Tillman's Corner Optimist Club. He served as a Board Member and Treasurer of Skyline Country Club (now Heron Lakes), a Board Member of the American Red Cross and was active in the United Fund, Touchdown Club, and the Mobile County Treasure Forest Association.
He is survived by his sons, John Christopher Davis and Michael M. Davis (Diane), daughter, Elizabeth D. Calametti (Mark), grandchildren Kacey M. Davis, Andrew M. Davis (Caitlin), John Davis Calametti and Anna Carlisle Calametti and his great grandson, Seth E. Davis.
Funeral services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving guests at 10:00 a.m. in the Sarto Center of St. Pius X. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to Spring Hill College.
