
John was the third child and the only son of John Franklin and Marguerite Fesenmeier. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He then earned Masters and PhD. Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. John served two years in the US Army in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. He was employed by Union Carbide Corp. Chemical and Plastics in South Charleston, W. VA., Ciba Geigy Corporation, Cranston, RI and McIntosh, AL, and Brown and Root, Mobile, AL. John moved to Mobile in 1976. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, served on the Parish Council and School Board, chairman of the RENU Program, and was an active member of the Men of St. Joseph. John volunteered at Providence Hospital and was a member of the Country Club of Mobile.
John leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Ann, five devoted children, Dr. James (Dr. Jane), Joseph (Kimberly), Amy Baggett (Robin deceased), Sara Abercrombie (Hunter) and Dr. Michael (Bridget), and fifteen grandchildren, Paul, Sam, Daniel, Taylor, Annie, Franklin, Gretchen, Molly, Vincent, William Fesenmeier; Anna Bailey and John Baggett; Emily, Kate, Louise Abercrombie; his brother-in-law, Alan Barrow; cousins, John, Paul Engbersen, Margie Snow, and 23 nieces and nephews.
His sisters, Monica Gaglione and Mary Marguerite Quinn, preceded him in death.
John's family would like to thank the many physicians, nurses and other health care workers who helped care for him over the past years, especially Drs. Robert Israel, Larkin Daniels, and Ade Bodet.
The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at 10 A.M. on Monday, December 12, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Robin Baggett Educational Fund at any Regions Bank location or McGill-Toolen Catholic High School.
Entombment will be in the Mobile Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
