

John Marion Stewart was born in Jackson, MS on February 12, 1940 and received his angel wings June 7, 2024 after an extended illness. His family moved to Mobile where he graduated from Vigor High School. He was a graduate of Spring Hill College where he received his degree in Chemistry. He was employed by Accordis Cellulosic Fiber, Inc formerly Courtaulds Fibers, Inc for forty-two years. He retired in October 2004, although he continued to serve as President and Director of the company. He was a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Testing & Materials, where he served as Chairman of the Society’s Committee on Occupational Health and Safety for 13 years. He was active in the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemist and the Society of American Military Engineers.
Alongside his regular employment, he also served thirty-two years in the Army National Guard and Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant. His military service offered many assignments, including a mobilization readiness planner with the Army Forces Command, the Combat Engineers and he played saxophone and bassoon in several army bands.
John was a life time member of Chickasaw Methodist Church. He was active in many civic and community organizations over the years. He served as president and a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Gulf State Fair of Mobile. He was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Grand Patron 2006-2007 and Grand Representative of Italy and Iowa. He was a member of Satsuma Chapter #515 and Elizabeth Armstrong Chapter #10. He was a Past Master of Chickasaw Lodge #894 in Chickasaw and currently a member of Pentalpha Lodge #804 in Saraland. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Masons, a Shriner and a 65-year Demolay. John was an Eagle Scout. In his leisure time he enjoyed listening to Classical, Jazz and Big Band music.
John was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Barbara Selman Stewart, his parents Jenner M. (Jack) Stewart and Ruby Kustaborder Stewart and his brother David William Stewart.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years Faye Hood Stewart, his sons Mike Stewart (Stephanie), Richard Stewart (Fredalyn), Jimmy Stewart, step daughter Debra Warhol (Andy), step sons Bob Hood (Steffanie) and Brandon Hood (Leslie Ann), grandchildren Jayne (Eliza), Elizabeth, Ryan (Kelsey), Kamryn, Landon, Dalton (Anedra), Charli, Anna (Matt), Matthew, Emily, and Olivia, great granddaughters Hagan & Harlan.
A special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care and a special thanks to his nurse Becca and tech Jennifer. He loved his caregivers, Arlene Allen and Rosa King, and we appreciate the love and attention they gave to him. A special thanks to Danice Bowen and Janice Taylor for their help.
The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Chapel, service will be at 11:00 with interment following at Pine Crest Cemetery.
