
John Edwin Walker – A native of Meridian, MS and a resident of Spanish Fort, AL for the past 16 years, died Friday, January 20, 2011, at his home. John graduated with honors from Meridian High School in 1954 where he was a star player on the baseball team, pitching and catching, earning him a full scholarship to Ole Miss. Until his retirement in 2009, John was President of Greater Mobile Plumbing Supply, Inc. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he will be greatly missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Edwin Walker and Johnnie Mae Purvis Walker; and two sisters, JoAnn W. Jones and Freda W. Hinson.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Pam Burton Walker; one son, Mark A. Walker of Meridian, MS; two daughters, Nannette W. (Rick) Hasselle of Marion, MS and Janet W. (Mark) Gray of Cabot, AR; his brother, T. Allen (Dot) Walker of Mobile; five grandchildren, Rick (Claire) Hasselle, Jr., Tasha (Jarod) Turner, Zachory Edwards, Jason Hasselle, and Crystal Gray; nine great-grandchildren, JJ Rhine, Masen Rhine, Huston Edwards, Lydia Veasey, Devon McDonald, Khristian McDonald, Jaiden Edwards, Katie Hasselle, and Gibson Hasselle; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
