

John Dewey West, Jr., known to family and friends as Jay, passed away on June 5th, 2014 at the age of 59. Jay was born in Mobile, AL to John Dewey West, Sr. and Catherine Marsal West on January 13, 1955. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, fisherman, master woodworker, and so much more, Jay enjoyed every aspect of life, and anyone fortunate enough to have known him was also blessed to share in some part of that joy. Whether it was enjoying Monday night dinner with the family, taking trips to Sand Island, going up the river to the camp, or visiting Jay’s amazing cabinetry and woodworking shop, any time spent with him was a pleasure to all. Jay is survived by his wife Patricia, children Mary Beth (fiancé, Jake Yde) and Jayson (wife Makoto), grandson Shouma John West, siblings Catherine Bennett, Todd West, and Anne Cook, his beloved dogs Nikki and Victrola, as well as a host of extended family and great friends. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin St. on Tuesday, June 10th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X on Wednesday, June 11th at 10:00 am, followed by entombment at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Pkwy. The family is requesting that donations be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor in lieu of flowers. Jay and Patricia shared a love unlike any other. Jay will be sorely missed, deeply loved, and always remembered by all those who knew him.
