

Josephine Whitney Grissett, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on January 17, 2026, leaving a legacy of devotion to her family and friends. She was born on February 20, 1943, to Joseph Wade Whitney and Elizabeth Wright Owen Whitney. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings: Minnie Lou Lundy, Margaret Elizabeth “Betsy” Cobb, Henry Whitney, Wade Whitney, John “Owen” Dunn, and Katherine Collins Belmore.
On June 9, 1961, Josephine married the love of her life, William Franklin “Frank” Grissett, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and a growing family tree.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tina Marie Mozingo (Andy) and Patricia Lee Garris (Don). Her influence lives on through her five grandchildren: Elizabeth Ashley Cross (Ben), Druanna Marie Wood (Hines), Jessica Joanne Garris Lombardo (Nick), Rachel Rebekah Alaniz (Antonio), and Benjamin Joseph Garris (Aubrey).
Josephine was the proud great-grandmother of eight: Bennett Micah and Lily Marie Cross; Charles Alexander “Cal” and Joseph Bryant “JB” Lombardo; and Stella Dean, MacKenzie Brooke, Avery Josephine, and Gracelyn Joanne Garris.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
Services will be held in Mobile at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, on Friday, January 23. Visitation will be from 9:00–11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Crest West Cemetery, 1599 Snow Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
