Joyce Collier Hovell

Mrs. Joyce Carolyn Collier Hovell, age 89, native and lifelong resident of Dauphin Island, AL, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Michael and Edna Helena Williams Collier, husband of 61 years, Aden Paul Hovell, three brother and two sisters.

"Miss Joyce" as she was affectionately known, was a Traffic Officer with the Mobile County Sheriff's Department for 45 years. She also worked as a Teacher's Aide at the Dauphin Island School for 33 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Edmund By the Sea Catholic Church.

Mrs. Hovell is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Denise Townsend (Larry) and Cheryl Ann Rainey (Roger-deceased). She is also survived by her grandchildren Paul Dwayne Townsend (Brittany) and Malena Jo-Nell Johnson (David), and great-granddaughter, Destanie LeeAnn Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edmunds By the Sea Catholic Church, followed by interment in Dauphin Island Community Cemetery.
