

Mr. Leo Fisher Denton, Sr. passed into eternal life on Tuesday, July 29, near the end of his 94th year on this earth. He died peacefully at his home in Deer Park, Alabama with family. Leo was born on August 1, 1931, in Mobile, Alabama, the youngest of three children of Jeremiah Denton, Sr. and Irene Steele Denton. In 1954, Leo married his beloved wife, Mignon Therese Morrill Denton. Together they raised six children. They were married for 50 years, until Mignon’s death in 2005.
Leo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Parish, where he served on the Parish Council and as chair of the Peace and Justice Committee, and where he was a member of the Charismatic Prayer Group. He is survived by many family members, who he loved so much, including children, Leo (Pat) Denton, Jr., Irene (Louie) Denton Schaefer, Bill (Rose) Denton, Joe (Kathy) Denton, Cathy Denton Shropshire, and Tom (Teresa) Denton; his 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Poe Morrill Impastato and Mary Acker Morrill Gonzales. Leo was preceded in death by his two brothers, Senator and Rear Admiral Jeremiah Denton, Jr. and Dr. Peyton Denton; by daughter-in-law Rosemary Toomer Denton; and granddaughter Regina Denton. Leo’s life was also abundantly blessed by many friends who cherished his friendship, wisdom, faith, and joyful peace.
Throughout his life, until the last hours of his life, Leo was mentally and physically active. He loved tennis, golf, water aerobics, and being outside with nature. He was a Navy veteran who served from 1951 to 1954. He was a person of faith, optimism, laughter, compassion, and peace. Leo also wrote a beautiful faith-based book entitled “From Grandy With Love.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities, Carmelite Monastery of Mobile, or the Love All Pantry in Mobile.
