Leslie was born November 17th, 1947 in Mobile, Alabama and was the oldest son of the late Agnes Evelyn and Gordon Krudop Collins of Mobile. Leslie was preceded in death by his brother Feldon "Rocky" and his eldest daughter Jacci of Mobile, Alabama. Leslie is survived by his brother John, four sisters, Joan, Brenda, Agnes "Audie" and Ada, his remaining children and their spouses, Micah and Sarah of Mobile, Alabama, Christopher and Naila of Atlanta, Georgia, Lindsey and Travis of Atlanta, Georgia, his six grandchildren and many other family members and close friends.
Leslie was a veteran who proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1970 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1974. Later, while living in Atlanta, Georgia Leslie spent many years working for Georgia Lighting where he helped design and oversee the installation of massive chandeliers in hotels including the Ritz-Carlton. Eventually, Leslie moved back to Mobile, Alabama and gave in to his passion of antique archaeology and junking. He took the quote, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" literally. He loved to go out of his way to find things that he thought people needed or asked about. Leslie was kind-hearted and had the gift of giving (also gabbing) in a no strings attached fashion.
Leslie was twice married at length and loved both of his families. He was proud of his children and their many accomplishments.
His family would like to extend a special Thank you to his doctors at Mitchell Cancer Institute and the hospice staff of The Retreat even though they mistakenly shaved off his facial hair.. Yes, for real.
The last passage he sent to a close friend that he said he found beautiful: Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 9am-10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Zeigler Blvd. The funeral service will follow at 10am. The Graveside service with military honors would be held at 1 pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
