She was born February 8, 1945, in Mobile, AL, the daughter of Edward and Lucy (McMillon) Smith. LeVerne was a full time devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great, great-grandmother. She made the best buttermilk biscuits from scratch anyone put in their mouth. The family could not wait for the holidays to devour her cornbread dressing and sweet tea. She had a gift of eying the ingredients without measuring anything. Together with Greg, she taught her three boys to be men and her two girls to be strong ladies.
She was a vibrant, classy, and loving lady who loved and cared for her family and friends deeply. LeVerne was a great listener and never judged anyone. She took many secrets with her. That was the kind of lady she was. Always available any hour, day or night. She was just a phone call away. She loved the sunshine, beach, fishing, and camping. She always enjoyed sitting on the beach watching the seagulls. They were her favorite bird. She also enjoyed her country music and dancing. Anyone that knew Leverne loved her. Her smile, laugh, and beauty radiated a room. At any opportunity there was, she enjoyed spending quality time with her loving family.
LeVerne is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 53 wonderful years, Gregory Shepherd; two sons, Anthony and Edward (Ed) Shepherd; her parents; and siblings, Marie Upshaw, Lillie Johnson, Berta Brasell, and Bill Middleton.
LeVerne is survived by her son, Ronnie Shepherd; two daughters, Melissa (Tony) Weaver and Tammy (Shane) Neal; 9 grandchildren, Taylor, Blake, Jonathan, Christina, Toni, Ashley, Josh, Heather and Conner; 14 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
