
Lewis P. Driggers, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2010 in his home after his battle with lung cancer at the age of 91. Lewis was born on July 2, 1919. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Lewis worked for the Mobile County Sherriff’s department from 1955-1999 where served for 45 years before retiring as Captain of the CID unit. He received numerous awards for his service including; Most Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, for the first congressional district of the state of Alabama. Lewis was one of the original founders of the Sheriff’s Posse established in 1957. Lewis had a great love for his family and his horses. Lewis is survived by his son, Marvin P. (Patricia) Driggers, granddaughter; Lisa Marie Driggers, daughter, Donna (Eddie) Burgess, granddaughter, Kelly (Bob) Kerrigan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Driggers. Special thanks to Sadd’s Health Care, Jennifer Foster, Pat Russell, Renee’ Busby, Chaplin Ron Pierce of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department and Captain John Bougle of the Sheriff’s Posse for all their help and assistance. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
