Yvonne Duke - A lifelong resident of Mobile, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at her home. She was the devoted wife of James Beauford Duke. Together, they owned and operated Duke Trailer Sales during the 1950's and 1960's. During this time, Yvonne also operated her own home business producing signs for businesses in the trucking industry. A true southern lady, well ahead of her time, she was quite the businesswoman. After her husband's death, Yvonne opened her own wig shop in Springdale Mall, and after nearly five years of operation, she closed her shop, but was quickly recruited by Gayfer's to manage their wig department. Yvonne was always active. She loved to play bridge; she loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending time in Gulf Shores. Although she was born in Georgia, Yvonne was a Mobilian. She loved her city and all it had to offer, especially when the azaleas were in full bloom. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Beauford Duke; and their sons, James B. Duke and Juan M. Duke. Survivors include her grandchildren, Jim Duke, Gwen (Jeff) Moody and Kelly Duke; and three great-grandchildren, Logan, Amber and Seth. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.mmgfuneralhome.com
