

Lois Mae Collins Brasell passed away on Tuesday morning April 19, 2016 at Crowne Assisted Living of Springhill, 18 days short of her 97th birthday. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, Thursday April 28th from 5 to 7 PM with the recitation of the rosary at 5:30 PM by Reverend Monsignor G. Warren Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday April 29th at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 808 Springhill Avenue (The Church where she was baptized, received her First Communion and regularly attended during her school years). The Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Dan Good. Interment to follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Lois was born in Mobile, AL on May 7, 1919, and was a devout Catholic and a lifelong resident of the City. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Lewis D. Brasell Sr, as well as her parents Charles W Collins, Sr., and Ethel Farrell Collins, her sisters Elsie Collins Lilley, Nell Ruth Collins Schibler, Hazel Collins Calloway and a brother, Charles W. Collins. Jr., and her granddaughter Lesley Alexander. She is survived by her son Dave Brasell (Martha) of Daphne, and daughter Judy Brasell Alexander of Mobile, as well as grandchildren Angela Cooper of Tomball, TX, Kendra Robinson of Old Hickory, TN, Christine Alexander of Portland, OR, and Wes Brasell of Van Alystyne, TX., and one great-grandson Bryce Robinson of Old Hickory, TN. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends that include, but are not limited to, Art and Karen Green, Cindy and Maurice Turgeau, and Ginny Clinchard, and Brian Gianetti. She was a 1938 graduate of the Convent of Mercy in Mobile, one of the last three surviving members of her class of 23 students. She had served as a member of the Ladies Altar Society at Little Flower Catholic Church in Mobile, and most recently was a member of the parish at St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 40 years. She had also worked after graduation at the shipyards on Pinto Island during WWII, as well as at the US Army Corps of Engineers and Hammel's Department Store. She had also assisted her husband for many years serving as the secretary to the Mobile Amateur Softball Association. In later life, she had served as secretary for the MSSA ILA Local 1985 Pension Fund. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Connick, Edward Hudson, Brian Giannetti, Maurice Turgeau, Jimmy McAleer and Pat Fath. Honorary pallbearer will be Art Green. The family wants to thank Dana Marston, RN, and the staff at Crowne Assisted Living of Springhill for the loving care that was extended to her over the last two years of her life.
