Loren A. Delaney, age 85 of Mobile, Alabama passed away early morning on September 14, 2025. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 18, 1939. Mr. Delaney is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Delaney, mother, Florence Johnson Delaney, daughter, Bobbie Mizelle and grandsons, John Tyler Ross and Donnie Ruble.
Mr. Delaney will be fondly remembered for his love of sports, especially Alabama football "Roll Tide" and Tampa Bay Rays, his joking and light side nature. He always loved a good meal and his wife's cooking. His favorite meal was a juicy cheeseburger and a vanilla shake which he enjoyed on the eve of his passing while watching Saturday college ball. He was a "Happy Camper!"
Mr. Delaney served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy at the start of the Vietnam conflict on the aircraft carrier, USS Hancock. He was proud of his service and his country. After his military service he settled in Pascagoula, MS where he was an auxiliary police officer and other trades. He and his beloved wife moved to St. Petersburg, FL where he worked over thirty years for the Pinellas County Schools in maintenance. Once retired he returned to the Mississippi and Alabama gulf coasts. In Florida, he and his wife were very active in Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4256, Madeira Beach, FL, obtaining many positions including that of Commander. He transferred his VFW Life membership to VFW Post 3373 in Pascagoula, MS.
Mr. Delaney is survived by his children, daughters, Debbie (Marshall Evans) Dunham and Mary (Arnold) Thaggard of Lucedale, MS, step-children, Jimmy (Vicki) Ross, Vancleave, MS, Marti Davis, Mobile, AL, Patricia (Calvin) Parker, Van Cleave, MS and Tina Rizzo of Mobile, AL. Nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren also survive him.
His family would like to thank the staff at Enhabit Hospice for their compassionate care of their beloved father and grandfather.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until service time of 11:00 a.m. Graveside services and entombment will be held in Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, MS beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Robert Sanders will officiate.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Clifton Thaggard, Christopher Thaggard, Elbert Erkhart, Cara Rizzo, Randy Fallon, with Honorary Pallbearers, Landon Thaggard, Calvin Parker, Jimmy Ross, James Mizell and Adam Delaney.
