

Louis Harlan Holt passed away after a brief illness on July 3, 2014. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle Holt, his daughter, Sherri Holt Glenn of Verbena, AL, his parents, Lewis Lindsey and Evie Holt, brothers Ed Holt, Truman Holt and a sister, Mattielou Allen all originally of Titus, AL. He is survived by two sons, L. Stan Holt (Conna), Birmingham, AL and Terry L. Holt (Florencia), Mobile, Al; grandsons, Tim L. Holt, Athens, Ga, T.L. Holt, II (Mary Gene), Knoxville, TN, John Wesley and Larson Tilden Holt, Mobile, Al; granddaughters, Shannon Glenn Collins (Shawn), Verbena, Al, Stacey Holt, Charlotte, NC, Cindy Harley, Calera, Al, Nicole Holt and Michaela Holt, Mobile, AL. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Sydney Collins, Taylor and Annabella Harley, Silas and Susannah Holt. He was a quiet, humble man who worked hard, minded his side of the street, loved and cared for his family. By many he was known as one of the best “Refrigeration Technicians in the State of Alabama” during his working career in Birmingham. He was a United States Marine to the end and served his country proudly as part of the 1st Marines (He was the “Old Breed”) during World War II in the South Pacific. He served in four major battles of the 1st Marines including, Guadacanal, New Britain and Peleliu. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church in his memory. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Kingswood United Methodist Church 5200 Perin Rd, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary prior to the service. The family extends a Special Thanks to the caring staff of Lynnwood Healthcare.
