Lucille Jackson (de Villiers) Ollinger, age 87, native of Mobile, AL and longtime resident of Fairhope, AL went to join our Lord in Heaven on May 16, 2019. She is survived by her adoring children Lucy de Villiers Newton (Aaron) of Missouri; Helena de Villiers Reid (Doug) of California, Edward Brenton “Trip” de Villiers III (Cathy) of Gulf Shores and John Jackson de Villiers (Tabatha) of Mobile; her grandchildren Elizabeth Turner Roberts Hicks (David); Mary Catherine Roberts Wood (Jeff); David Benjamin Roberts (Ashley); Robert Reginald Roberts Jr (Sarah); John Hastings Roberts; Bradley Jay Bridges Jr (CQ); Ashley Bridges Hogge (Chris); Edward Brenton de Villiers IV (Kasey); Hannah de Villiers Gatlin (Scott); Tait de Villiers Pitt (John); Jordan Elizabeth de Villiers (Greg); her step-grandchildren Hannah Burns Rush (Thomas) and Henry Thomas Burns; her great-grandchildren Bradley “LJ”, Jackson, Maddy, Colton, Brooks, Marley, Eva Claire, Benjamin, Taylor, Bella Cate, Hutton, Lettie, Cassius, and Liam; her sister Toni Myers-Wineman (Don); and her brother Horace Turner Jackson (Mary Jane). Lucille was preceded in death by her parents John O’Connell Jackson and Helena Turner Jackson and two siblings John O’Connell Jackson Jr. and Patricia Jackson Harden.
She was married for 37 years to her childhood sweetheart Edward Brenton de Villiers Jr., who preceded her in death in 1986.
She later enjoyed 23 years of wonderful marriage to her beloved Thomas P. Ollinger until his passing in 2015. Her family loved to remind her that she was chosen Queen of Old Shell Road Elementary School in 1944, and that she was more importantly, Queen of our family. She attended Murphy High School, Mobile, AL and Sullins College, Bristol, VA; and was employed at the University of Alabama Library, Tuscaloosa.
She served on numerous charitable committees as a member of the Junior League of Mobile, AL the Junior Welfare of Tuscaloosa, AL and was a member of the Providence Hospital Auxiliary. Lucille was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope, AL where she was a Member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Lucille was a kind and gracious person, devout in her faith, generous, grateful and brave. She had a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and had a sweet spirit. She was a wonderful mother, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed beyond words.
The family will receive friends from 9:00am until 11:00am followed by Mass of Christian burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope, AL Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 11:00am, located at 370 S. Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532 followed by a reception. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm at Pine Crest Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.pinecrestfuneralhome.com
