Marion Mitchell Barnett died November 3, 2016, at a local hospital. He was born in Hugo, Oklahoma to Isaac Marion Barnett and Anita Marshall Barnett. He graduated from Hugo High School and joined the Air Force. He enrolled at Oklahoma State University in the field of Architecture where he won several awards for his designs and paintings. After graduating, he worked with Arch Winter as a City Planner and became Mobile’s Director of City Planning.
After retiring, he and his wife traveled all over the world seeing 90 countries on land trips, river and ocean cruises. He was an avid stamp collector, painter of modern art, garden designer, and landscape architect.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Lexie Gill Barnett and two children, David Mitchell Barnett married to Ashley Brady Barnett and their daughter Madeline Brady Barnett, all of Mobile; Kerry Barnett Welborn, married to Dr. Daniel Welborn, and their two children Ryan Daniel Welborn and Lauren Elizabeth Welborn, all of Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Jean Gray, of Albuqueque, New Mexico, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will held on Sunday, November 6, at Radney Funeral Home from 3-5p.m. The burial will take place Monday morning at a private family ceremony at Pinecrest Cemetery.
