Marvin was born on February 26, 1934 to Mr. and Mrs. James McLaurin Thompson in Panama City, FL. but raised during his formative years in Mobile, AL.
A 1952 graduate of Murphy High School, he held varsity letters in several sports, most notably football as a tight end. He attended Auburn University and played football under the tutelage of Legendary Coach, Ralph "Shug" Jordan.
While attending Auburn, Marvin was drafted and served honorably as a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
In 1962, Marvin Acquired Mobile Fence Company, a family owned and operated business which he built and has created a family legacy that is now 4 generations old and still thriving, Marvin retired after 60 years.
During Marvin's tenure as President and owner of Mobile Fence, he took great pride in sponsoring local Rotary Clubs, as well as many childhood sports teams.
He was a long time member of the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club and the Mobile Jaycees and especially enjoyed the fishing camaraderie and friendships he developed over the years.
Marvin also loved dancing and Mardi Gras, where he was a founding father of the "Order of Inca" Mystic Society and also loved hosting as captain of his den as well as riding on floats.
Marvin had a passion for living life to the fullest but also possessed unwavering determination when faced with challenges. He had an exceptional work ethic but was always fair to his employees and had an unrivaled sense of humor. His quick-witted one liners never failed to bring smiles around him. A dedicated angler, Marvin spent as much time with a fishing rod in his hand as he did running his business.
Marvin helped raise 5 beautiful, successful children and left a legacy for hard work, integrity, giving back to the less fortunate and determination to be the best you can be!
