Mary Jean Morehead Malone

Mary Jean Malone (Morehead) died peacefully on July 16, 2017 in Mobile, Alabama at the age of 89. Mary is survived by her husband, James Walter Malone; children, James Walter Malone Jr. (Sarah), Mary Linda Malone Robertson (Graham), Mark Ernest Malone (Wanda) and Julie Ann Malone Eatman (Greg); grandchildren, Kevin Malone, Matthew and Marissa Eatman, Jenna Malone, and Stephanie Mooney; and great grandchildren, Loralei Raven Mooney, Alyssa Faith Gwin and Kalyn Desiree Gwin. Mary is preceded in death by her mother Emma Belle Upchurch Morehead, father Ernest Linwood Morehead, and siblings Ernest Morehead (2005), Cathryn Morehead Auter (2006), and Dorothy Morehead Balthrop (2003). Mary Jean Morehead was born on January 13, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama to Emma Belle Upchurch Morehead and Ernest Linwood Morehead. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1945. Mary married James Walter Malone, the love of her life, on August 4, 1951. Jim began working for a local pulp and paper mill (Hollingsworth and Whitney) a few years before they were married and spent his career in the industry. Over 9 years, the couple welcomed 4 children into their lives and Mary set about making a loving and safe home. Mary’s children remember her as a very kind, gentle, and patient mother who gave selflessly of herself and supported them in every way. Mary was a very generous individual who loved the Church and was passionate about the Bible. She was an active and dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and often volunteered in many different capacities. She loved to spend time in her flower garden, reading books, and sewing. Mary made innumerable prayer shawls as gifts for those in need. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, at the Robertsdale United Methodist Church, 22220 AL-59, Robertsdale, Al. at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00. A graveside service is scheduled at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life. Flowers are welcome.
