Mary Lee (Chandler) Sims, age 87, passed away of natural causes on January 21, 2013 at a residential senior care facility in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Mary was born on November 16, 1925 in Lobelville, Tennessee to Ervin and Cora Chandler. Mary was the second oldest of six siblings, growing up together with three sisters and two brothers. Mary became a permanent resident of the Gulf Coast in January 1947 when she married U.S. Navy veteran Harold Lloyd Sims. During her life Mary gave birth to three children – Ronald Allen Sims, Barbara Joyce (Sims) Nottingham and Mary Ann (Sims) Christenot. Mary was a long time, committed member of Pensacola’s Warrington Baptist Church, where she established her membership in 1967. Mary was beloved by all those who knew her as a quiet, reserved, and sweet natured woman. One of the professional caregivers who daily saw to her needs in the final months, weeks and days of her life mourned her passing, saying it was if her own “granny” had passed on. Mary is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Gardiner) Nottingham and Mary Ann (Gary) Christenot; four grandsons – Michael (Megan) Miller, Matthew (Stephanie) Christenot, Jordan Christenot, and Phillip Christenot; four great grandchildren – Hudson and Elliot Christenot, Madison and Mallory Miller; three sisters – Jeanette (Doss) Spencer, Vernell Hudspeth, and Irene (Don) Orzechowski; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Allen Sims; by her two brothers Carlon Chandler and Bob Chandler; and by her husband, Harold Lloyd Sims in 1995. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at Radney at 11:00 AM, officiated by Dr. Mickey Hawkins. Internment immediately to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westwood Healthcare for the compassionate care given to Mary during her stay. In particular, we are especially grateful to Michael, Monique and Terry.
