It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Sue Dykes Brown announces her passing on April 29, 2021, at the age of 78 after a brief illness. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior. Mary Sue will forever be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 59 years, Gary, and their son, Allen (Pam). She will also be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Linda Thompson (Dan), her cousin Eugene Patrick, and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends.
Mary Sue was predeceased by her parents, L.D. and Glo Ethel Dykes, and her two sisters, Joyce Towne and Douglas Edgar.
Mary Sue graduated from Murphy High School and began working at Brookley Federal Credit Union before assisting with Gary’s businesses for 54 years.
Mary Sue was constantly and selflessly devoted to the well-being, health, happiness, and comfort of her loved ones and others around her, often at the expense of her own, as evidenced, for example, by her nearly 30-year legal guardianship of her developmentally disabled 2nd cousin, Gene, who would have become a ward of the state long ago without her tireless care.
A celebration of her life is being planned. In lieu of sending flowers, Mary Sue requested that those who so desire should instead donate to her cousin’s care, in her memory, payable to “Gene,” and sent to him at PO Box 3394, Gulf Shores, AL 36547.
