late Mae Hammonds Smith and Carey Eugene Smith, passed away in Conroe, Texas on June 24, 2023 at the age of 88. She moved to Mobile in 1942 when her father was transferred with L&N Railroad during the buildup for World War II. She married James "DD" Urban on August 18, 1951. Mrs. Urban retired from Mobile County Courthouse as the District Court Clerk in May 1993. Her main focus was her family and raising her children with her husband. She helped him build several houses, the last of which she still owned.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Urban was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Smith; sister, Betty Jean Smith Whims; husband, James Daniel Urban; sons, Richard Allen Urban and Kenneth Ray Urban. Survivors include her son Larry Daniel Urban (Mary Ann) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. A gathering will be held at 4 p.m. at Golden Corral on Schillinger Road following the interment. Condolences may be offered at www.pinecrestfuneralhome.com.
