

At a young age he began his educational journey at St. Peter Claver School, St. Joseph’s School, and Most Pure Heart of Mary High School. He participated in various sports and was a star quarterback in high school. He continued his journey at Howard University in Washington, D.C where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon moving to New York City to begin his professional career he attended New York University School of Business Administration where he received a Master of Business Administration in Finance. He continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School of Business Administration Executive Education Program.
His professional career in New York City began with employment as Account Executives with AT&T, Salomon Brothers, Inc., Global Investor Services, Morgan Stanley Global Custody/Chase Manhattan Bank. Upon leaving Morgan Stanley he accepted positions at Citibank Global Securities Services, Vice PresidentGlobal Product; Human Rights First, Chief Operating Officer; The East West Institute, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer; Independent Consultant; and Project Enterprise, Executive Director/CEO.
Melvin moved back to Mobile in 2010 and accepted a job with the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce MBDA Business Center as an Executive Consultant. He then accepted a position as the Regional Manager with the Mobile Region SBDC, where he served until the time of his death.
He was active in the community where he served on various boards while residing in New York City, with one that was dear to his heart, Children’s Village (residential treatment facility for troubled children). He served as President of the Board of Directors for several years. Upon moving to Mobile he became active in the community serving as president and treasurer for Prichard Preparatory School Board, treasurer for Mobile Ballet board and Advisory Board Member for Hancock/Whitney Bank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin J. Washington, Sr. and Florence Hafler Washington.
He is survived by his loving wife, Chanda Washington of Mobile; bonus-children, Ashton Casie Falgout and Saige Lauren Falgout of Mobile, Skylar Anne Falgout of Los Angeles, CA and Gracie Jeanne Falgout of Birmingham, AL.; siblings, Ichella (Peter, III) Dais and Lloyd (Deborah) Washington of Mobile; Deborah (Dr. Taylor, Jr.) Byrd of Decatur, AL and LaSander Angelo, Sr. (Carol) Washington of Rowlett, TX; special aunt, Juanita Eaton; special niece Florence Nicolette Byrd; nephews, Michael, Peter, IV and Julian Dais, Marcus Byrd, Roderick and Richard Quinnie; nieces, Nicole Washington, Jeanette Bryan, Rosalyn Quinnie and Taynetta Byrd Tibbs; great nieces, Aliyah Anderson-Dais, Ichella Sommer and Gabriella Dais; great nephews, Andrew Washington; Xavier O’Neal, Mason, Ezra, Eli, and Ellis Byrd; great-great nephew Noah Dais and a host of cousins and many loving and devoted friends.
