Mitzi Zalopany Wolfarth, 79, passed away on November 17th in Mobile, Alabama from complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. A native of Mobile, Mitzi is preceded in death by her parents, Mercedes Felis Zalopany and Peter Zalopany, and her brother, Peter Edgar Zalopany.
After graduating from Bishop Toolen High School, Mitzi attended Spring Hill College where she met her future husband, Bill. Mitzi and Bill spent the first two decades of their 58-year marriage as a military family, raising their three children in locations ranging from Panama to New Jersey to Hawaii. Upon returning to Mobile, she devoted her time to her family and to organizations like CHSAAM (Catholic High School Alumni Association of Mobile) and the Museum of the City of Mobile. She was a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her infectious laugh, gift of storytelling, and innate kindness will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. To them, she was and will always be simply “Mitzi.”
She is survived by her husband: Lt. Col. William M. Wolfarth Jr (U.S. Army, Ret.); her children: Lt. Col. William M. Wolfarth III (U.S. Army, Ret.) (Diane), John P. Wolfarth (Kevin), and Julie Wolfarth Cobb; her grandchildren: Lauren Wolfarth Goodlett (Ross), Allison Wolfarth Solano (Juan), Caroline Wolfarth, Alexander Cobb, and Hayes Cobb; and her brother, Henry Max Zalopany (Virginia).
Burial will be private, with a memorial mass to be scheduled at a later date.
