

Myrtle “Mert” Brock Minto, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, at her home in Mobile, AL. She was 90 years old. Mert's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and a deep devotion to God, her family and friends. She was a member of the People of Praise community and loved reading, gardening and painting.
Born on September 29,1933 in Mobile, AL, Mert was the eldest daughter of Sylvester Wesley and Myrtle Alice (Curtis) Brock. In May of 1953, Mert married the love of her life, James Gordon Minto. Their union was a partnership built on love, respect, and shared values. Together, they raised six children: James, Jr., Andrew, John, Marianne, Nancy and Dean. Mert's devotion to her family was unwavering.
Mert is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Gordon and son, John Wesley Minto. She is survived by her children: James, Jr. “Tad” (Susan), Andrew (Pam), Marianne, Nancy and Dean (Julie), John’s widow, Judy, 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Mert is also survived by a sister, Grace (Brock) Munn and brother S. W. “Jim” Brock, Jr. (Carolyn), nieces and nephews as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial Mass to celebrate Mert's life will be held on July 19, 2024, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with a visitation at 3pm followed by the mass at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the EWTN Catholic Network as a memorial to Mert.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Gentiva Hospice, the staff at Visiting Angels Home Care and Allison Phillips for their compassionate care during Mert's final days.
Myrtle Brock Minto will be remembered for her gentle spirit, wonderful smile, her dedication to the Lord and the profound impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace.
