Nancy Belle Bryant Holliday – a 108 year-old native of Hattiesburg, MS, a 50 year resident of Jackson, MS, resident of Mobile since 2000, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Mrs. Holliday was born on November 16, 1904 to the late John Calvin and Martha Ann Hamilton Bryant. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio, TX and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. Throughout her long career she served as a 5th grade and home economics teacher. She specialized in helping at-risk students in elementary school, and over the years, received many letters from former students whose lives she touched thanking her for her care and understanding which led them to success in their adult lives. Mrs. Holliday was a longtime member of Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson, MS where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a regular visitor to the “Old Ladies Home,” even when she was older than the residents. She served as a Mississippi Flower Show judge, was a past president of the Evergreen Garden Club in Jackson, MS, and was a member of the Elizabeth Tilley Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. In October 2012, she received a proclamation from Mayor Sam Jones and the Mobile City Council declaring October 30, 2012, Nancy B. Holliday Day in Mobile. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holliday was preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Holliday, and nine siblings: Lillian Irene Bryant Fowler, Leslie Ray Bryant, Sr., John Calvin Bryant, Jr., Clarence Hamilton Bryant, Gilbert Bryant, Esther Ann Bryant, Naomi Bryant Stubbs, Glenn Edward Bryant, and Odessa Christine Bryant Dockery. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Holliday Stevens (William); grandchildren, Kristen Dawn Stevens Fink (Ron) and Colin Bryant Stevens; great-granddaughter, Madeline Camille Fink; sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; nieces, Bettye Bryant Claypool and Frances Fowler Nance; nephews, John Dockery, Charles Dockery, Jr., Harlan Stubbs, Jr. and Leslie Ray Bryant, Jr.; and very special friend, Randy Knight. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, January 11, 2013, at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour.
