

LaNell Luker Hoagland – an 87 year-old native and resident of Mobile passed away at her home on Friday, August 20, 2010. She retired from W.F. Woolworth’s after many years of service as a sales associate where she was affectionately known as “The Candy Lady.” She was a member of Sage Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the B.A.L.L. Club, and was a very active bowler. Mrs. Hoagland was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Richard C. Hoagland; daughter, Janie Logan; mother, Nora Luker; and son-in-law, Ronald Maness. She is survived by four children, Carol Waldrop (John), Richard Hoagland (Peggy), Betty Maness, and David Hoagland (Sandra); son-in-law, Don Logan; former daughter-in-law, Gwen Hoagland; 14 siblings, E.J. Luker, Cecil Luker, Lawrence Luker, Hattie Nick, Nettie Martin, Vivian Lambert, Mildred Milan, Mae Stanley, Mary Ann Nick, Richard Luker, Paul Luker, Beulah Smiley, Beth Cannon, and Hugh Luker; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great, great-grandchildren; two special friends, Sally Mancil and Vermelle Deason; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, August 23, 2010, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Wayne Logan, Timothy Waldrop, Terry Waldrop, Benjamin Maness, Seth Maness, Kevin Hoagland, Herman Schmidt, and Anthony Pearson.
